The award and stipend of $1,000 is given yearly for outstanding work in twentieth-century history of medicine or medical science, as demonstrated by the completion of the Ph.D. and a proposal to turn the dissertation into a publishable monograph.

The Ph.D. must have been completed and the degree granted within the last five years (i.e., 2005–2009). The application must include a curriculum vitae, the dissertation abstract, a one-page summary of the proposed book; a description (not exceeding two pages) of the work to be undertaken for publication; and two letters of support from faculty members knowledgeable about the applicant’s dissertation.
This award honors Jack D. Pressman, Ph.D., a distinguished historian of medicine and Associate Professor of the History of the Health Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco at the time of his early and unexpected death in June 1997.

The prize is given in recognition of work and projects that promote scientific knowledge on the formation, progression and management of conflicts and that enable or carry out the practical implementation of conflict management.
The award especially aims to strengthen and improve civilian conflict management in the societal and transnational realm. Additionally, it can be awarded for work and projects that address conflicts in non-European countries, whether the work or project has been implemented or could have been implemented.
The award is herewith publicly announced. It is endowed with 10.000 Euro.
The recipient of the award is selected by a committee that includes the benefactor of the award as well as members of the Centre for Conflict Studies at Phillips-University Marburg and public figures who are renowned in regard to civilian conflict management.

The Valley Humanities Review is pleased to announce its annual High School Scholarship Contest. We are currently seeking essays in the humanities written by current high school students that demonstrate high quality, intellectual rigor and originality.
The winner will receive a $500 prize and publication in the Spring 2010 Issue. Submissions will be accepted from September 1 to December 15. All submissions should adhere to the Chicago style in formatting, footnoting and bibliography. Essays should be between 3,000 and 6,000 words in length, be free of errors and have an original title.
