The European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) is a new pilot scheme which rewards annually up to three EU regions which have the most outstanding political vision to boost their entrepreneurial environment. This label will recognise forward-thinking regions, irrespective of their wealth, size or competences. One of the main principles of the EER is to help regions to contribute to the implementation of the "Small Business Act for Europe".
The EER was launched during the OPEN DAYS-European Week of Regions and Cities on 7 October 2009 by Luc Van den Brande, President of the Committee of the Regions and Günter Verheugen, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Enterprise and Industry.
